Vice President
Helga Namale
Helga came to the US for higher education and has remained in the Midwest to date pursuing a career in commercial real estate. She has served on several organization boards specially targeted to connecting cultures and widening the horizons of her world while bringing as many people as she can along for the journey. USD provides yet another opportunity to give back to causes that she holds dear especially for the Ugandan future and she looks forward to being a value-add on this Executive Committee. In her free time, she enjoys a good book, loves to travel and explore new cultures.
Secretary
Ivan Sekyonda
Like a lot of Ugandans in the diaspora, Ivan came to “outside” countries to pursue higher education. It was a big surprise when he found out that New York is a state bigger than New York City and that his school was actually not in NYC but rather in the middle of nowhere upstate NY. This eye-opening experience created a passion in him to help other immigrants coming to the U.S - specifically students- to adjust and learn more about the world. USD is a way for Ivan to further this mission and support those who have not had as much fortune as he has to pursue a better life for themselves through improvements in education and the community as a whole. Ivan spends his free time on the couch.
Treasurer
Basudde Kajubi, CFA
Basudde Kajubi is a first-generation Ugandan-American born and raised in the Boston area. His family has a long history of advocacy for Ugandan causes both in the diaspora and in Uganda. USD is a chance to continue in that tradition and provide a unique perspective. Basudde has had a career in Engineering and Finance. Basudde holds the CFA® designation and is a member of the CFA Institute. In his free time, Bas enjoys soccer and DIY home improvement projects.

Laura Turyatemba

She has worked with non-profits and volunteered with various organizations from the Greater Boston Food Bank to HIPS. She has a deep interest and passion for advocacy on issues around education, homelessness and the girl-child. Ugandan Support from the Diaspora speaks to these passions and she looks forward to being a value-add on this Executive Committee. For fun, Laura loves a good book, a good conversation or a good adventure.
